Who We Are
Sandeshkhali Maa Saroda Women & Rural Welfare Society is a non-profit, non-government voluntary organization dedicated to the holistic development of rural and marginalized communities in the Sundarbans.
Named after Maa Saroda, we are inspired by her ideals of compassion, service, and women empowerment. For the last 16+ years we have been working at the grassroots to ensure health, education, livelihood and dignity for women, children and rural families.
Our Vision
An empowered, healthy and self-reliant Sundarban where every woman and child has equal opportunity to learn, grow and lead a dignified life.
Our Mission
1. Women Empowerment: Promote leadership, skill development and economic independence for women through SHGs and training.
2. Child Development: Improve health, nutrition and education of children through ICDS convergence and community programs.
3. Health & Environment: Create awareness on health, hygiene, safe drinking water, and climate-resilient practices.
4. Disaster Relief & Rehabilitation: Respond to floods, cyclones and provide relief in Sundarban areas.
5. Rural Development: Support livelihood, sanitation, and sustainable agriculture for vulnerable families.
5. Environment & Climate Action: Promote environmental conservation through mangrove plantation, waste management, plastic-free campaigns, and climate-resilient practices for Sundarban communities.

Sea levels rise. Salinity increases. Fish disappear.
But there is one natural wall that protects us – MANGROVES.One hectare of mangroves can reduce cyclone impact by 70% and store 4x more carbon than any forest.
For us in North 24 Parganas, mangroves are not just trees. They are life insurance.The Crisis in Sundarbans:Environment: 25% mangrove cover lost in last 30 years. Coastal erosion and climate change increasing.Livelihood: Fishermen and honey collectors lose income when forests degrade.Women: After disasters, women walk 5-6 km for fuel, face salinity in drinking water, and lose livelihood options.
