Adventures Beyond Barriers Foundation (ABBF) is an Indian not-for-profit organisation that uses the power of outdoor adventure and sport to create a more inclusive world for persons with disabilities (PwD). Founded in 2014 by Divyanshu Ganatra — clinical psychologist and India's first blind pilot — ABBF was born from a single conviction: that the life of a person with disability need not be defined by limitation.
Over the past decade, ABBF has grown into one of India's most active disability inclusion movements — organising hundreds of inclusive sporting experiences, touching nearly 15,000 lives, and pioneering adventures that had never before been attempted by persons with disabilities in India. We have impacted 1000+ PwDs with the gift of mobility, through our customized, state of the art orthotics and prosthetics devices across the country.
India carries the world’s largest burden of disability in absolute numbers. According to the 2011 Census of India (the most recent national disability enumeration), approximately 26.8 million persons — 2.21% of the population — live with some form of disability. Of these, an estimated 20% (around 5.4 million) have locomotor disabilities directly amenable to orthotic or prosthetic intervention.

The gap between need and access is acute for families below the poverty line. A basic below-knee prosthesis costs Rs. 25,000–40,000 — an impossible sum for a household earning Rs. 5,000 per month. Without intervention, children with untreated locomotor disabilities frequently drop out of school (UDISE+ data shows 2.3× higher dropout rates for PwDs), remain outside the formal workforce as adults, and face a lifetime of economic and social exclusion.
The conditions most prevalent among our beneficiaries include Cerebral Palsy, Nerve Paralysis, Limb Length Discrepancy, Phocomelia, Drop Foot, and Amputation. Left without support, these worsen progressively and reduce quality of life to a debilitating degree. A single correctly-fitted device, however, can reverse this trajectory entirely — restoring not only mobility but self-worth.
ABBF’s Help A Child Walk programme is a fully-integrated, end-to-end intervention model. Unlike one-time device distribution camps, we deliver a four-stage cycle that ensures devices are correctly assessed, properly manufactured, well-fitted, and actively used.
The total programme cost is Rs. 30,000 per beneficiary plus 22.5% operational costs and 2.5% administration. Your support will give a child not just a device, but independence, dignity, and the freedom to dream.
