About Us

We have over 25 years of experience in implementing programmes that focus on protection, education, healthcare, and livelihood skills training. This has allowed us to continue to advocate with government and civil society stakeholders for the rights of vulnerable populations – particularly street-connected and abandoned children. Our focus is to build the sustainable capacity of their under-served families and communities so they can take charge of their own lives and futures.
Vision: A world where it should never hurt to be a child.
Mission: Providing holistic care and development of marginalised children and people, protecting their human rights and ensuring their basic rights to education and health.

Our Appeal

One third of the Kolkata’s population lives in neighbourhoods in great poverty. In some of these neighborhoods, up to 75% of households live in extreme poverty. Children from these slums experience major hurdles every day; many cannot go to school regularly and their education is neglected. Access to quality education is severely limited, as government schools are often overburdened and underfunded. Most schools do not practice activity-based learning, which means that many children are unable to follow lessons and school becomes an ordeal.

Our Inclusive Quality Education for Children from Urban Poor Settlements and Children with Special Needs in Kolkata, in collaboration with Samagra Shikha Mission, Government of India, implements innovative strategies to strengthen Government Primary Schools and Resource Centres. This programme places emphasis on preparing school teachers to impart quality education through Joyful Learning and positive classroom interactions, so that children with learning difficulties and special needs improve their academic performance and personal learning skills.

We appeal for funding support for the following specific project activities:

  • Preparation & Development of Teaching Learning Materials, for use in Joyful Learning
  • Workshops on Teaching Learning Materials & Activity Based Learning
  • Implementing Positive Reinforcement
  • School Enrolment Camps
  • Celebrations for Important Days and towards Safeguarding the Environment
  • Community Awareness
