The Udayan Shalini Fellowship program of Udayan Care (a non-profit organization), is a unique program dedicated to academic excellence and personality development for deserving and talented girls from weak socio-economic backgrounds. The program aims to empower these girls with their right to education so that they are able to pursue their dreams and live a dignified life. Each fellow stays in the programme till she finishes her course, which is an average period of 5-6 years. The Udayan Shalini Fellowship Program of Udayan Care, Kolkata Chapter that started in 2007 has been running successfully over 17 years, the year on year growth in the induction numbers has been a healthy indicator on the need and aspiration for a women empowered society. The Program is a torch bearer of a progressive society that encourages talent recognition amidst an inclusive environment. The organization has ambitions plans to reach out to more girl students and strengthen the curriculum that would facilitate research and learning. Udayan Care Kolkata Chapter is a professionally managed organization with defined operating processes, run by senior professionals along with strong Managing Committee who are deeply involved in its periodic strategic growth.
The programme aims to meet four major objectives:
1. To provide financial assistance to deserving but needy girl students from government schools to help them continue their studies
2. To provide individual attention, counseling and grooming through regular mentoring programme for their overall mental and moral development
3. To widen their horizon of knowledge across diverse fields such as career choices, social issues, personality development among others
4. To develop social sensitivity so that they give back to society once they become independent and start earning
