The Nirman Project aims to strengthen climate resilience and educational outcomes among adolescents in climate-vulnerable communities of South 24 Parganas. The initiative will focus on building environmental awareness, leadership skills, and STEM competencies among adolescents through structured learning platforms.
The project will establish Adolescent Resource Centres that will serve as hubs for science and mathematics learning, leadership development, and climate education. Adolescents will be trained as “Green Scouts” who will lead community campaigns on environmental conservation, disaster preparedness, and sustainable practices.
Through this initiative, adolescents—particularly girls—will be equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and skills required to become informed decision-makers and agents of change within their communities.
Key Objectives
1. Empower Adolescent Girls:
To equip adolescent girls (13–18 years) with environmental awareness, climate resilience knowledge, and leadership skills so they can become champions of sustainable change in their communities.
2. Strengthen STEM Learning:
To improve science and mathematics learning outcomes among adolescents, especially girls, through structured academic support provided at Adolescent Resource Centres.
3. Promote Community Awareness:
To foster community-level adoption of eco-friendly practices and disaster preparedness through youth-led awareness campaigns conducted by trained “Green Scouts”.
Target Beneficiaries
315 adolescents (200 girls and 115 boys)
The project will prioritize adolescents from vulnerable communities who face high risks of school dropout and limited access to quality learning opportunities.
Expected Impact
- 60% of adolescents showing improvement in STEM learning assessments
- Minimum 20% increase in average scores in STEM tests
- 60% of adolescents demonstrating improved knowledge on disaster preparedness (based on pre- and post-assessments)
- 50% of community members reached through youth-led awareness campaigns
- 40% of community members showing improved gender-equitable attitudes (survey-based)
