Tata Medical Center (TMC) is a state-of-the-art philanthropic cancer care hospital in Kolkata, committed to delivering comprehensive cancer treatment through advanced technology and expert healthcare professionals. Conceptualized in 2004 and operational since May 16, 2011, the hospital is governed by the Tata Medical Center Trust, established in 2005. Spread across 13 acres in New Town, the 431-bed facility serves all sections of society, with about 75% of its capacity dedicated to underprivileged patients at cost rates. TMC provides holistic cancer care — from diagnosis and multimodality treatment to rehabilitation and palliative support — guided by multidisciplinary teams following evidence-based protocols. Its infrastructure includes cutting-edge technologies such as molecular imaging, robotic surgery, and advanced radiation systems, complemented by strong support services like social work, physiotherapy, and counselling. The center functions alongside Premashraya, an accommodation facility for patients and families, and the Tata Translational Cancer Research Center (TTCRC), fostering a comprehensive ecosystem for cancer care, education, and research.
The Indian Cancer Registry reveals that maximum kinds of specific cancers come from
Eastern and North Eastern parts of India.
Hence, Tata Medical Center, Kolkata, a Rs 350 Crores world class not-for-
profit cancer specialty hospital was set up as a beacon of hope for this region in May
2011 with 183 beds.
Due to the long waiting list of cancer patients needing specialized treatment especially
the underprivileged, Tata Medical Center had moved for additional beds and facilities in
the Phase II expansion project. The Phase II at a cost of Rs 260 Crores was added from
Feb’19 with the help of many generous donors. The Phase 2 of the hospital now houses
254 more beds and additional radiotherapy and diagnostic departments (Total Bed
Capacity: 437) was conceived.
Close to 70% of the patients are provided treatment at subsidized cost.
Within 14 years of operation, the hospital has treated more than 2,54,000 patients and
performed almost 64,000 surgeries.
The creation of additional infrastructure has helped more and more patients to get the
treatment without delay. This will require funds to help them for treatment and to meet
the commitment of our responsibility of giving back to society.
We humbly appeal for your support through participation at Tata Steel World 25K
Kolkata, 2025 to raise donations as funding towards treatment of underprivileged
cancer patients and helping us provide holistic care for many more patients entering
our doors.
We look forward to your support @ TSW25K Kolkata, 2025 and hope you will help
make a difference in the lives of those who are in desperate need
Help us raise funds for our specific needs.
