About Us

Dakshini Prayash is dedicated to uplifting the lives of economically disadvantaged communities through holistic education, comprehensive healthcare, promotion of self-reliance, and environmental sustainability. Through innovative programs and initiatives, we strive to create a replicable model of community development that emphasizes empowerment, sustainability, and inclusivity. By collaborating closely with local communities, stakeholders, and partners, we aim to build a brighter future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive, contribute positively to society, and help maintain environmental balance.

As part of its Education Program, Dakshini Prayash runs Madurdaha Satyavritti Vidyalaya, a formal school serving children from underprivileged backgrounds. What began in 1993 as a small coaching center with only a handful of students led to the establishment of the first school building in 2003, serving 100 students. Today, the school provides education up to Class X for around 300 children and offers remedial coaching support to approximately 50 children. Beyond academics, equal emphasis is placed on sports, extracurricular activities, and the overall health and well-being of the children. Keeping in mind the evolving educational aspirations of the community, we are gradually transitioning towards an English-medium model to better prepare our students for future opportunities.

Our Appeal

Holistic Education for the underprivileged children in Madurdaha region of Kolkata, West Bengal.

Dakshini Prayash runs Madurdaha Satyavritti Vidyalaya, a school for underprivileged children, currently serving around 300 students from Play Group up to Class X, along with remedial coaching support for 50 children. We believe in the holistic development of every child and place equal emphasis on academics, health, sports, and extracurricular activities.

As part of our efforts to prepare children for future opportunities, we are gradually transitioning towards an English-medium school. We also offer classes in dance, music, and art, alongside a structured after-school sports program that includes football, table tennis, self-defense, and marathon training. Our students regularly participate in sporting events, with notable achievements in city marathons and girls’ cricket tournaments. 10 children regularly participates in Marathon of which 3 of them are podium finishers. We have podium finisher is CSC run, Hindusthan Club Run and Barasat South (all 5K) run.

Although children regularly attend school, several structural barriers affect their learning outcomes. Limited exposure to functional English restricts comprehension, communication skills, and readiness for higher education or employment. Additionally, many children live in overcrowded homes with limited study space and poor sanitation, which affect their ability to concentrate and maintain good health. They often lack opportunities to develop confidence, leadership, teamwork, and self-expression.

This project will address these challenges through academic support, sports training and structured extracurricular activities that promote holistic development.

The initiative will create a supportive learning ecosystem that nurtures both academic excellence and life skills, enabling children to grow into confident and capable individuals.
