About Me

My name is Sabitri Kumari. I am a young adult and a person with disability (PwD) who grew up in the Child Care Institution (CCI) system. I always dreamed of working, becoming independent and building a life with dignity. When my family tried to force me into child marriage, I chose to leave home and seek safety through the CCI system.

After I turned 18, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) helped me transition into the Opportunity Ecosystem. Here, I received structured training and developed my skills in garment manufacturing. With the support and opportunities I received, I was able to move from learning to earning.

Today, I work at Opportunity Originals. I earn a regular salary and have PF and medical insurance. I am living independently and with dignity, and I am proud of how far I have come.

Our Appeal

I am participating in the Tata Steel World 25K not just as a runner, but as someone who has experienced the power of opportunity.

There was a time when my future was being decided for me. Today, I can work, earn, make choices and dream about my future. I want other young people like me—especially those leaving Child Care Institutions—to have the same opportunity to become skilled, independent and confident.

Through this fundraiser, I want to support Rescue and Relief Foundation and the Opportunity Ecosystem, so that more young adults can move from institutional care towards dignified livelihoods and independent lives.

Please support my journey and help create more opportunities for young people like me. Every contribution can help someone move one step closer to independence.
