For many young adults, turning 18 means freedom. For some, it means being forgotten.
I am Adv. Sidhant Ghosh, a practicing Advocate at the Calcutta High Court and Founder & Secretary of Rescue and Relief Foundation.
For the past decade, I have worked with survivors of human trafficking and young adults with intellectual disabilities. One of the biggest challenges they face is what happens after rehabilitation, after institutional care, and after childhood ends.
Through our Opportunity Initiative, we provide skill training in culinary arts and garment manufacturing, helping these young adults build confidence, earn an income, and lead more independent lives.
I am participating in the Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata to raise funds for this initiative and to ensure that more young people get a chance to learn, work, and thrive.
Your support can help turn dependence into dignity and opportunity into reality.
Most people support the rescue of a child in crisis. Far fewer support what happens next.
What happens when a young adult with an intellectual disability or a survivor of human trafficking wants to learn, work, earn, and become independent?
That is why we created the Opportunity Initiative.
What started as a small idea has today grown into a proven model of inclusion and livelihood creation. Through 3 Opportunity Cafés, our skill training programs, and Opportunity Originals, we have trained and employed young adults with intellectual disabilities and survivors of trafficking, proving that disability is not inability when the right support is provided.
Today, Opportunity Originals has produced more than 10,000 T-shirts and polo shirts for educational institutions including IITs and IISERs, as well as for companies, conferences, and corporate uniforms. Our cafés have served over 150,000 customers, maintain a 4.9 Google Rating, and have become symbols of dignity, inclusion, and social entrepreneurship.
The initiative has been recognized by NDTV Samarth, The Hindu, The Telegraph, Hindustan Times, ABP Ananda, Better India, and many other leading media platforms. Our team members and beneficiaries have also received multiple awards for overcoming barriers and demonstrating excellence.
Yet, there are many more young adults waiting for their first opportunity.
By supporting my Tata Steel World 25K fundraiser, you are not simply making a donation. You are helping create jobs, fund skill training, build confidence, and open doors for young people who are too often excluded from the workforce.
I invite you to contribute, share this campaign, and become part of a movement that is transforming lives through opportunity, dignity, and inclusion.
Together, we can ensure that a disability, a difficult past, or a life of institutional care does not define someone’s future.
