Our Appeal

The Subhiksha Special School cum Rehabilitation Centre is a comprehensive, community-based initiative designed to support children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through a structured blend of special education, therapeutic services, and rehabilitation programs. The project aims to address the critical gap in accessible, affordable, and quality care for children with conditions such as Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, and multiple disabilities, particularly among underserved communities.
The centre provides a safe, inclusive, and child-friendly environment where each child is assessed individually, and a personalized intervention plan is developed. Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) form the foundation of the learning process, ensuring that educational content and teaching strategies are tailored to each child’s cognitive level, learning pace, and behavioral needs. Functional academics, communication development, social skills, and behavioral management are key components of the curriculum.
A multidisciplinary team consisting of special educators, therapists, and trained caregivers delivers a range of therapeutic interventions, including speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and behavioral therapy. These services are designed to improve communication abilities, motor coordination, sensory processing, and overall functional independence. Early intervention services are also provided for children aged 0–6 years to enhance developmental outcomes during critical growth stages.
In addition to education and therapy, the centre focuses on life skills and vocational training for adolescents and young adults. Pre-vocational and vocational activities such as tailoring, handicrafts, and basic work skills are introduced to promote independence and prepare beneficiaries for livelihood opportunities. The project also emphasizes daily living skills,
enabling children to perform self-care activities such as dressing, eating, and personal hygiene with minimal assistance.
Parental involvement is a key component of the project. Regular counseling sessions, training workshops, and support groups are conducted to empower parents and caregivers with the knowledge and skills required to support their children’s development at home. The centre also conducts community awareness programs to reduce stigma, promote inclusion, and advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities.
Furthermore, the project facilitates access to government schemes, disability certifications, and inclusive education opportunities by collaborating with schools, local authorities, and stakeholders. Continuous monitoring and evaluation mechanisms are in place to track progress, measure outcomes, and ensure accountability.
Overall, the Subhiksha Special School cum Rehabilitation Centre adopts a holistic approach that integrates education, therapy, family support, and community engagement to enhance the quality of life, dignity, and independence of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
