Don Bosco Ashalayam began in 1985 at Howrah Railway Station, reaching out to the marginalized youth who had made railway platforms their home. Over the years, it has walked alongside these young people, offering them hope, care, and a path to a better future. As the days went by, the focus turns to children who are denied of their right to education and they are assisted through community-based tuition centres and hostels with Government Schools.
Guided by Don Bosco’s Preventive System, which emphasizes presence, empathy, and proactive care, Ashalayam developed a unique approach to rehabilitate children who had been affected by poverty, abandonment, and social evils. The journey started with medical aid, which naturally led to shared meals, safe shelter, and a nurturing environment. This consistent adult presence helped the children realize they were valued, loved, and capable of change.
