Our Appeal

GIFT SOMEONE SIGHT…DONATE NOW..

With about 45 million visually impaired and 15 million blind in both eyes, India has the largest population of blind people in the world. A substantial portion of this blindness is in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

In Bihar alone, over 4 million people are visually impaired, and 700,000 are needlessly blind in both eyes just due to cataracts, which can be easily cured through a simple sight-restoring surgery. Additionally 100,000 cases get added to this pool every year.

To eliminate this huge quantum of blindness, Akhand Jyoti has committed to performing over 250,000 free eye surgeries annually till 2030, which would be achieved by increasing its existing surgical output by 4X times.

Presently Akhand Jyoti has 5 surgical centres, together performing around 91,193 surgeries annually, out of which around 80% are done free for the poor.”

Cataract is the primary cause for this needless blindness and can be easily cured through a simple sight-restoring surgery.

A simple sight-restoring surgery not only restores vision but also restores the earning capacity of the person. Additionally, it frees any child caregivers (especially girls) at home to get back to school and continue their studies.
